HEARTCHANGE - Prevention Programs for People at Every Starting Point
Arrhythmia (Irregular Heart Beats)

Risk Factors and Prevention
Even people who appear healthy and free of heart disease can experience arrhythmias. But those with heart disease are at the highest risk. So, reducing heart disease is key to reducing arrhythmia. Since the underlying cause of an arrhythmia isn’t always clear, the best course of action is preventing, delaying, and treating heart problems such as atherosclerosis (“clogged arteries”) and high blood pressure. Lifestyle changes are vital to reducing the risk or progression of heart disease. Any of the following conditions can increase the likelihood of developing arrhythmias.

  • Physical Inactivity

  • Stress

  • Obesity

  • Diabetes

  • Smoking

  • Alcohol

  • High Cholesterol

  • High Blood Pressure
                                                                          An arrhythmia is considered documented
if it is recorded electrocardiography on   a                                                              (ECG or EKG).
