 Kathy Sward, PhD, MPH Dr. Sward, founder of HeartChange, is the leader in stress and exercise physiology. She has served as the Director of Lifestyle Medicine for nearly 10 years at the UPMC Cardiovascular Institute, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she was trained by renowned cardiologists. She earned her doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Sward completed post doctoral studies in stress physiology and immunology (psychoneuroimmunology) in the School of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Sward continued training at Harvard University in Mind/Body Medicine and Mindfulness. She was awarded her Master of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh, studying chronic diseases, stress, physical activity, and behavior change. In addition to traditional applications of her training, Dr. Sward pursued education in complementary medicine methods. She has practiced therapeutic yoga for over 10 years. Dr. Sward received her registered yoga certification (RYT-500) at Three Rivers Yoga Institute, Corapolis, PA in hatha and restorative yoga (threeriversyoga.com). Dr. Sward has a solid scientific foundation in western practice and combines her eastern and western training as requested by her clients.
